During 2022 and 2023, I was the game writer on this project. I contributed to in-game barks, dialogue, item descriptions, lore drops and website texts, as well general editing of much of the in-game text. I also created in-house handouts, to communicate worldbuilding and lore to the team.

Project Survive [cancelled]
I was the Narrative Designer on this first-person survival game from CI Games / Batfields. I built a world and story into the existing project, planned the overarching narrative beats and arcs, and implemented them in the first level.
Expected to release before 2025, this Unreal Engine 5 project is described as a “new IP targeting the success of the survival genre” that will feature a “commercially sound” theme.

Warhammer 40,000: Gladius – Relics of War
Gladius Prime was known to Imperial scholars as a planet of archeological interest. During its colonization ancient relics were found, revealing hints of a shrouded past. But it was more than relics. Something awakened, an unspeakable horror from an ancient past, and the citizens of Gladius found themselves trapped in a terrible war for survival.Gladius Prime was once a planet of peace. Now there is only war.Warhammer 40,000: Gladius – Relics of War brings you to a world of terror and violence. Four factions will engage in a brutal war for dominance over the planet’s resources. In the first turn-based 4X strategy game set in Warhammer 40,000 you will lead one of four unique factions.
I was Lead Writer and Creative Director on this innovative 4X game set in the Warhammer 40,000 universe. I wrote every line in this game and its 14+ DLCs, as well as faction design, world-building, narrative design and working with Games Workshop regularly for IP approval.

Ten Things Video Games Can Teach Us
WIth Jordan Erica Webber, I was the co-author of this book that explored philosophical issues through the prism of video games.
Would you kill one person to save five others? If you could upload all of your memories into a machine, would that machine be you? Is it possible we’re all already living inside a simulation?
These sound like questions from a philosophy class, but in fact they’re from modern, popular video games. Philosophical discussion often uses thought experiments to consider ideas that we can’t test in real life, and media like books, films, and games can make these thought experiments far more accessible to a non-academic audience. Thanks to their interactive nature, video games can be especially effective ways to explore these ideas.
Each chapter of this book introduces a philosophical topic through discussion of relevant video games, with interviews with game creators and expert philosophers.
In ten chapters, this book demonstrates how video games can help us to consider the following questions:
1. Why do video games make for good thought experiments? (From the ethical dilemmas of the Mass Effect series to ‘philosophy games’.)
2. What can we actually know? (From why Phoenix Wright is right for the wrong reasons to whether No Man’s Sky is a lie.)
3. Is virtual reality a kind of reality? (On whether VR headsets like the Oculus Rift, PlayStation VR, and HTC Vive deal in mass-market hallucination.)
4. What constitutes a mind? (From the souls of Beyond: Two Souls to the synths of Fallout 4.)
5. What can you lose before you’re no longer yourself? (Identity crises in the likes of The Swapper and BioShock Infinite.)
6. Does it mean anything to say we have choice? (Determinism and free will in Bioshock, Portal 2 and Deus Ex.)
7. What does it mean to be a good or dutiful person? (Virtue ethics in the Ultima series and duty ethics in Planescape: Torment.)
8. Is there anything better in life than to be happy? (Utilitarianism in Bioshock 2 and Harvest Moon.)
10. How should we be governed, for whom and by who? (Government and rights in Eve Online, Crusader Kings, Democracy 3 and Fable 3.)
11. Is it ever right to take another life? And how do we cope with our own death? (The Harm Thesis and the good death in To The Moon and Lost Odyssey.) -

Absolver
In the ruins of the fallen Adal Empire, you awaken with a mysterious mask on your face, and faint recollections of an esoteric ceremony. Freeing you from hunger, thirst, and even death, the mask is the creation of the Guides, the rulers of these lands, who have placed you here to determine whether you are worthy of becoming part of the elite corps of Absolvers. As you wander these forsaken lands, encountering other Prospects like you, you will learn new combat styles, acquire weapons, gear and armour, and build a team of warriors with whom to fight side by side in Arenas of combat.
Absolver is an online multiplayer combat game where players are placed behind the mask of a Prospect under control of the Guides, the new rulers of the fallen Adal Empire, who will determine your worth in joining their elite corps of Absolvers.
Narrative design, background lore, quest and faction creation for Sloclap’s inventive fighting game alongside my co-writer Alec Meer. Absolver ultimately narrowed its scope to become a purely PvP game, but we wrote an extensive campaign mode, world history and built its background lore during its first year of development.

Endless Space 2 (ARG)
Endless Space 2 is a Strategic Space Opera, featuring the compelling “just one more turn” gameplay, set in the mysterious Endless universe. As the leader of your civilization, will you impose your vision and build the greatest stellar empire?
We wrote an ARG for the launch of Sega’s well-received sci-fi strategy sequel, in which the in-game character Enfer (an errant AI) broke into our world. This involved copious amounts of branching dialogue, designed to make Enfer appear to respond to a player’s queries in real-time.

Dawn of Andromeda
Dawn of Andromeda is a pausable, real-time 4X space strategy game providing an accessible, fun and immersive experience, introducing fresh ideas to the genre. Build your empire, colonize new planets, interact with other factions and characters, research technologies and build great fleets.
Again, I had great fun creating the faction design, diplomacy dialogue and flavour text for this Civilization-style turn-based strategy game. Does some really interesting things with a singleplayer campaign, too.
